Check your drain outlets to make sure they aren’t clogged

Good News...We got much needed rain!  Bad news...leaf debris that have been collecting in gutters for nearly a month also washed out causing buried downspouts to get clogged up.  Please locate the daylights from the downspouts, remove the tops and make sure they aren't clogged.

Too Much of a Good Thing

The number one cause of dead houseplants is overwatering!  Watering "schedules" are a good way to remember your green friends, however not all plants are alike.  Water necessity is based upon the soil type, plant specimen and temperature of area where pot is located.  Check out the plant tags when purchasing for detailed information.  The potting soil should look dry and pot should feel lighter when it is in need of water.  Do not let the plants get to a point where they are wilting.

2/8 AM Snowstorm

As of 6:00 am the Feb 8th winter storm appears to be less aggressive than originally thought. We are in the process of finishing our salt pre-treatment of commercial properties and trouble areas of residential streets. Pavement surfaces are right at freezing and this application will eliminate any slick spots during morning rush hour. More importantly it will put the chemical in place to keep the pavement from flash freezing later today when the temperatures crash into the 20’s.

February 5th Snowfall

Today’s storm once again has the weather people heading in several directions. I decided to control our streets and commercial properties with an early morning salt application to allow for safe morning rush travel. Once the precipitation turned over from rain to sleet we began salt applications and had all surfaces treated by 6:30 am.

Watering Needs

Keep a close eye on your pots, window boxes and hanging baskets this month.  By this time of year, plants have grown out and their roots have developed fully, maximizing their water usage.  Water regularly and on hot weeks it is not unusal to water once a day.  Test the soil of the pots with your finger and make sure soil is moist and look for signs of wilting.  Watch shade plantings, they will not need as much attention as they do not have the sun drying them out.
