Pest Control

Bagworm Prevention

Best way to control an infestation of bagworms is to spray tree in the early spring when baby caterpillars are just emerging and relatively weak.  Timing is crucial, if sprayed even a week late they will be big enough to resist the pesticides.  Arborviates and ornamental conifers are bagworms favorites but they also feed on broad leaved shrubs and trees like maples and sycamores.

All you need to know about ticks

10. Ticks crawl up Ticks don't jump, fly, or drop from trees onto your head and back. If you find one attached there, it most likely latched onto your foot or leg and crawled up over your entire body.

9. All ticks (including deer ticks) come in small, medium and large sizes

8. Ticks can be active even in the winter That's right! Deer Ticks in particular are not killed by freezing temperatures, and will be active any winter day that the ground is not snow-covered or frozen.

Creepy Crawlers!

Have you seen a rise in the amount of crawling critters in your home? Unreasonably wet weather is mostly to blame. With more rain than usual this year we have seen a rise of insects seeking dry shelter inside homes.

If you're in need of a pest control treatment plan, give us a call at 913-829-6135 and we can have our Pest Manager, Jim, come out and take care of those creepy crawlers.

Ash Trees – Emerald Ash aren’t their only predators

Brownheaded ash sawflies are another threat to ash trees this year. They haven't been active for a few years but they seem to be back in some trees that are prone to sawflies. Give us a call if you see a bunch of holes in your leaves. They are the larvae eating off the foliage of the ash trees. We are able to spray an insecticide to safely remove the sawflies and discontinue the damage they bring on.

Mosquito Takeover

After all the rain these last few months I am beginning to feel like I have opened up a mosquito hotel in my backyard!  Not only does the pond have "No Vacancy" they are starting to camp out in pooling water and splitting the rent with the sparrows at the birdbath.  In order to prevent the population from increasing further I have turned to Bt pellets (Bacillus thuringiensis), a non-toxic control that is safe for pets & wildlife.  I also learned through my research that running water scares them off, so I have upgraded the pond to contain a waterfall.
